Brief Love

LoveRemembered

Glitter falls from your hair
As you dance with me tonight.
I am being covered in it,
Almost as much as you are.
Your hands on my wrists,
Gentle, not hurting me, as I would have thought.
You kiss me softly
And whisper to me, “I love you.”
I know you only mean for now,
Love does not last long in this world.
But for now it does not matter
If it lasts forever, or for an hour.
Everyone is gone when your lips touch mine
And the world stands still and empty
Just us, just there in the moment.
I could die two seconds later and
It would not matter nothing matters.
For this moment in time, we are built to last
For this brief time, we are together forever
For this minute, all is right with the world
And we are in love.
But as the music fades
You pull away and get sucked into the crowd.
You disappear from my sight, and I’m left all alone
Standing there with the memory of your lips
And our brief love.
