Staying Afloat, In The Year of The Goat: A Lunar New Year Message 2003

Contributed by Raymond_Anthony_Fernando on Thursday, 18th July 2002 @ 01:44:47 PM in AEST
Topic: SpecialOccassion

It’s the eve of the Lunar New Year
With my Chinese friends, I want to be near
Nearing midnight and my China doll and I go down
To visit old Chinatown
Buying the fortune cookies, new clothes
Or to just hang around

Morning has broken, a new day has come
Children, bursting with joy, greeting the morning sun
In the little ones eyes, I see the light
For we all know the Lunar New Year is in sight
From this day, our dreams must stay afloat
As the Chinese community welcomes the year of the goat

Recognized as the spring festival, the celebrations last 15 days
And on the 7th day, it’s everybody’s birthday
The Chinese community will be buying presents, food and decorations
On the eve, the reunion dinner with family members becomes a yearly tradition

Exchanging mandarin oranges is must
As family and friends build their relationships on mutual trust
Together with the other ethic groups, the celebrations nurture goodwill
Doting parents in their children, love and kindness, they will instill

A very Happy Lunar Year or as they say in Chinese “ Gong Xi Fa Cai
When visiting your Chinese friends, the delicious steamboat, you ought to give it a try
Rejoice, beat the drums and bring on some good cheer
For the Lunar New Year comes but once a year

Sincerely,

Raymond Anthony Fernando
