The New York Autumn wind rustles
the leaves, shakes the trees
and colors float on the crisp air.
But still there is an emptiness,
a remorse, a longing,
like one feels after the death
of a loved one or close friend.
It’ mid-October and the Yankees
are not in the Series!

Hmn. Baseball means nothing to me, but it obviously stirs up you Americans. I guess this is indicative of the pain of loss.
Keep writing, pvd. |

Yesterday: I drove into Boston for a meeting (with a Yankees plate on the front of my car, I might add). On the way, I swear I noticed the exact place where I stepped across the line from 'peak' to 'past peak'. It was, ironically enough, about the same place that Yankee pride changes over to Sox arrogance.
This morning: Happy to be back in my corner of CT and in the car again, I couldn't help but take a few unnecessary turns if only to enjoy the color before it disappears into the chill of November. It was lovely few moments... imperfect only because a voice from the radio reminded me of the game tonight. They're putting Pedro on the mound this evening, the voice said. I seriously hope he's just as stubborn and as arrogant as he was last year...
Oh, friend.... I do so understand. |
