All alone I sit here
Sulking in despair
Recollecting lost memories
And moments long impaired
Reliving those times
That’d become so obscure
Times of true happiness;
All remote but pure.
Sadly we now converse
So distantly by phone
Joined at the heart
But living on our own
Going our separate ways
We’ve tried to heal
The hurt we’ve caused
From that ordeal
And some we have
Though not complete
Because what’s before us
Is the biggest feat
A struggle between
Nostalgia and fate
A desired result
But too soon a date
So a withered soul
Sits and cries
Contemplating ways
That she could die
But deep down knowing
That it’s not the way
And despite everything
She longs to stay
Because in her heart
She truly understands
That what she’s asking
Is too much to demand
And because of that
She’ll reconcile
Carrying on
With that bittersweet smile.

I think an editor would say
it's too long. By two stanzas.
Personally I found it
compelling all the way.
Really like the effective
last line, the same
phrase of the title.
It's plainspoken.
That compliments the sincerity
of your voice in this emotional write.
