Goodbye, Wild Irish Rose. goodbye...

Contributed by reprobate on Wednesday, 20th October 2004 @ 11:58:18 AM in AEST
Topic: SadPoetry

The smile dissolved in pain gave alarm
As I gathered his hunched shoulders in my arm
This is just a waste of time he rasped with disdain
And why it wasn't I just couldn't explain

.........."if we climb up there, we could hit the girls with water-balloons"..........

Beaten from proud and tall, the laughter fading from his eyes
What has occured is truly something to despise
Serving his four years has placed him here tonight
And after all the unknown agony, he's fighting his last fight

.........."hey, bet you can't beat this score"..........

Like partners in crime, he was my friend
We were to be brothers until the end
Yet, nothing we'd ever done would have put him in this spot
Doubled over and fading fast in a hospital parking lot

.........." who are you taking to the prom; i just asked ann..."..........

Sterile, anal rules forced us to part
Wheeling him away finished the drain on my heart
There wasn't a word on or under my breath
That would ever prepare me for his death

.........."you want to get some beer and pizza and celebrate our enlistment?"..........

His family and I covered his memory with tears in dirt
Then tried drunken stupor to hide how much it hurt
Throughout it whole, all agreed he's too young to die
And so we went about now empty lives to continue this lie

.........."you know, the doctor said i'm gonna make it"..........
