Once
Long ago
I too, was like you
Chained
To yolk of sameness
Surviving
On the gruel of conformity
That was forced
Unceremoniously
Down my gullet
By well practiced
Manipulative hands
Aching for acceptance
Starving for attention
Longing to find my place
Searching for my purpose
I suffered the bonds of being
One with my fellows
Of one style
Of one voice
Of one thought
An automaton of mimicry
A tiny cog in the wheel of existence
Directed to follow
Condemned to be led
Conditioned to agree unconditionally
It was a single word
That broke the bonds
Loosing the beast within
Illuminating the darkness
That so cleverly shrouded
Their control
Now I
A stone upon the tracks
Derailing your train of thought
Feast upon words of wisdom
Ideas of individuality
I soar
Upon the winds of change
And usher in a new age
Freedom of thought
Celebration of self
I challenge those
Who would oppress me
Attempt to suppress me
Try to depress me
Take my pen
Break my pencils
Burn my parchments
I will scribe my words
In my own blood if need be
For of all that I may possess
Which you would try to steal away
My essence is not for sale
For until such time
As my breath is stilled
That single word will drive me
It has become my purpose
It has become my song
My mantra and my guide
That single word … ?

Holy ****! Yes - Exactly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm so wound up, I can't even manage a coherent comment. You've nailed it! Totally, completely, utterly - nailed it.
Very seriously honored to be along side poets like you and Mothy,

From a sheep to a goat. and it's the nature of a goat to butt. Just kidding. Seriously though, conformity is ok depending on whom your conforming to. Moses, Pharoah was a rugged individualist. Satan too: ( I shall ascend, etc.) We know their end, don't we. Nevertheless, you are a very tallented poet and an intelligent one too, and I was intrigued by this poem. But, may I caution; don't quit one extreme for the other.
God bless

Brilliant Nazzy.
A great compliment
to waht I am saying in
The Poetic Avenger.
We are not trading extremes.
We are challenging conformity.

You have done it once more, sweet Naz... You have left me without words to praise such a piece of perfection. I believe that one sentence has described its impact on me. But, when more words form in this mind, I shall return and give them to you. Beautiful.
Votre Fleur de Sang *Still utterly speechless* |

Naz, This poem again depicts your highly talented level of skill in writing. One theme that stuck out for me was the break from being controlled and manipulated to being a free and liberated thinker. The WHY always searching, is an achieved goal in itself. Just to be free to search. The question why always seeks a rational, a reason. Two other questions that can enhance why are what and how.
A very beautiful and thought provoking poem,

I've recently been advised to 'conform', but that was simply because I was 'ill-versed' in contemporary poetry.
I value all kinds of expression, as long as they appear and read heart-felt.
This is valuable, in my opinion. |

Well, I'm glad I bothered to check this out. The forum gave me the idea that it would be XXX, but I took a chance anyway, and it was worth my time.
Nice.
