Hiding In The Shadows

"Hiding In The Shadow's"

Here I am again, huddled in the corner.
I feel like a naughty, truant, child.
Hoping beyond all hope that he don't find me.
Praying that this time will be different.
Wondering if he'll beat me or not.
So here I am hiding in the shadows.

All I did was ask him if he was hungry.
My first mistake was not being a mind reader.
Of course he'd be hungry.
He worked an hour today he drank for seven.
Oh how I long to hide in the shadows.

Your stupid it he yells, "It's too hot.
He slams me into the counter breaking two of my ribs.
He rips my shirt off while pouring scalding water down my
Bare back.
I know better than to scream it will only make things worse.
I feel my back begin to blister as hot tears fall from eyes.
I slid under the table longing to hide in the shadows.

He yells at me that I'm a IGNORANT HILLBILLY!
I guess maybe he's right I'm dumb to stay with him.
But where would I go? What could I do?
I've been beaten so often I don't care anymore.
The dogs are treated better than I am.
I push myself up & stumble painfully down the hall.
I crawl into the closet & I hide behind the boxes.
Once more I'm hiding in the shadows.

Now I've gone & done it I just had to sneeze.
Now he'll find me for sure.
Oh! No! He's in the closet he yanks me up by the hair.
His fist punches me in the face I'm sure my nose is broken.
I'll have two black eyes, a busted lip, & missing teeth.
Oh how I long to hide in the shadows.

We go to bed he whispers that he's sorry & he loves me.
He's say's if I would obey him he wouldn't get so angry.
If I would only take orders he would stop beating me
I say I'm sorry I know it was my fault once again.
I wake with a start he's gone off the deep end this time.
He's acting insane my cloths are thrown all over the floor.
He finds the money I hid from him so I could leave.
He snatches me up he slams my head into the wall.
He has the most terrifying look in his eyes.
There's a hideous smile on his lips.
I try to crawl away but each time I move he kicks me with
His steel toed boots.
I think to myself I won't live another day if this keeps up.
I make it under the bed where I lie in fear.
I'm broken, I'm bleeding, & I'm barely able to breathe.
But at least I'm hiding in the shadows.

I hear him in the closet Oh! No! What's he gonna do?
Oh my Sweet Jesus he's got the gun.
This time he's gonna really kill me.
I count back! How many times this week have we played,
The game of Russian Roulette?
I see him cock the gun I hear the boom the sound
The sound of the whizzing bullet.
I feel this searing pain in my chest.
He looks into my eyes as pray to die.
This is the last time I will ever have to hide in the shadows.

Very sad powerful write. Get out while you still can, before this poem can come true.
