I Lost My Childhood

Contributed by pixie on Friday, 15th October 2004 @ 12:43:21 PM in AEST
Topic: SadPoetry

I lost my childhood long ago,
My beautiful river had lost its flow,
I was an innocent young girl,
Who didn’t have a care in the world.

But one day all the changed,
Everything distorted & re-arranged,
I no longer felt like a little child,
My thoughts & feelings became quite wild.

I saw the world for what it really was,
My head was filled with a deafening buzz,
The rose tinted glasses had fallen,
From my eyes with no flicker of a warning.

No child should have to go through what I did,
From my pores my innocence slid,
I knew of anger & I knew of hate,
At nine years old I was already in a state.

I can never reclaim all that I lost.
Never get it back at any cost,
I wish I could go back & make things different,
As my childhood seems so very distant.

Was there anything I could have done?
Stop all the webs from being spun,
If I’d have walked a different path,
Would I still hear the rapists laugh?

Would my Mother still have died?
Would I have sat there alone & cried?
Would I still have cut my arms?
Would I still put myself at the risk of harm?

Very emotional poem. You've obviously lost something you can't get back. Good luck to you and your writing!

Oh, Pix... I'm so sorry that you were able to write this. It feels rather wrong to say this... but... this is beautiful. I can't imagine a single reader that wouldn't be touched by this. It's raw and powerful but still somehow polished at the same time. I can't even begin to understand how you managed to write this piece so well.

And on the loss of childhood.... look instead to what you've gained, hon. Find your silver lining. I think sometimes that pain helps a heart to grow and yours so obviously has... and it shows beautifully in your poetry.

Hugs and love,
SNM

Oh Krissie hunny, of all the poems i choose to read upon my return. This was so heart breaking. Though our pasts are what make us who we are now. You are strong enough to make it through the rest. You have a strong and loving man at your side. Hunny you got my email if you ever need to just spill everything out. Im here for ya *hugs you so tight*
This is amazingly well written as ever. Hunny keep your writing up.

I really hope that this is not based on true events.
Its a very well arranged poem, but very disturbing.
