Dissappointment

Contributed by ladyaryssa on Friday, 15th October 2004 @ 11:23:06 AM in AEST
Topic: Grief

Dissappointment

You're not who I thought you were
Not innocent, or angelic
Not like me

And it hurts that you're not perfect
For a while it seemed obvious
That you should be with me

I know my expectations were impossibly high
But your act made them so, and
Now I feel cheated

Shattered below you and wondering
Why you wore the mask of deceit
Was it insecurity?

Peeling it off terrified me
As if you were ugly underneath
I felt something break

I know I can't glue it back
But I know I haven't really
Lost anything at all

You were always like this, covering up
And I didn't see it
How was I to know?

I guess the lesson in this is
Not to be so shallow
I let you in too quickly

Just because you were beautiful
You didn't have to prove yourself
By now I should know better

Now I do know better.

Great poem. It's refreshing to hear a new voice with a new style of writing. This is a very thought proviking piece and it shows that you have a lot of insight into your relationship, and I like how you as the writer, learned something from what you were writing. That, to me, is how I can see a true writer.

Be True,
zenmind
