Fading Memories

Contributed by pixie on Friday, 15th October 2004 @ 10:38:51 AM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

Memories can fade into the night,
As time goes by they shine less bright,
You push them to the back of your mind,
Hoping that there they’ll forever hide.

Hurt from recollections from your past,
Cause such a painful effect that lasts,
So as a way of emotional pain relief,
We stop thinking as to not cause ourselves grief.

Holding onto memories that have become shattered,
Lay in our palms looking old & tattered,
They cut so deep into our soft skin,
Tear us from the insides destroy us within.

It’s easier said than done to shut off our pain,
We think about it constantly as it drives us insane,
Fearing that if we ever dare to let go,
We’ll have nothing left in our lives to show.

If thoughts could be turned off by a switch,
Life wouldn’t seem so much of a *****,
We could move on after our hand has been dealt,
With the minimal amount of trauma being felt.

Your past can haunt you every day if you allow,
You have got to let go of it somehow?
Move on with your new & present days,
Be strong never letting anything get in your way.
