Down Our Street

Grief
|
Slum streets and dirty places,
The children play outside with dirty faces,
An old man whistlin' a catchy tune,
Rolling up a cigarette in his room,
Down our street there was grief and pain,
Never again will it be the same.
A couple kissing with such passion,
Both dressed up in the height of fashion,
In the flat above there's a babies cry,
Someone's singing him a lullabye,
Down our street there was grief and pain,
But never again will it be the same.
The little girl takes her brother's hand,
Never will they understand,
Hopes and dreams come crashing down,
Anger and despair all around the town,
Down our street there was grief and pain,
Never again will it be the same.
Different cultures, two classes, sorrow no joy,
A young mother, having another baby boy,
Desperation and agony ended in death on that day,
Promises of a better future all blown away,
Down our street there was grief and pain,
And never again will it be the same.

I know the street concerned and there's now a great deal more good cheer there. The poet has composed some beautiful words and she herself is the most beautiful person I know. |

Septic, Now that's what I call poetry. It rhymes, it scans and that makes it memorable. It has punch and honesty.
Great stuff |
