He hung his heart
on a fence for sale,
then sat in his van
and watched them pass:
Some, just out for a Sunday stroll
glancing at the art en masse
Others, curious; and a few,
souvenir hunting
(as tourists do)
paused to price as well as stare;
as part of himself
hung drying there:
Years of feeling,
hours of toil
(acrylic was faster, he chose oil)
So when some tourists asked,
"How much?"
He'd smile and say,
"It's wet, don't touch."

Oh, H_R, this is a spectacular piece. There is always that uncertainty in letting a part of yourself go.
I relate to this so much. Sometimes you have to let go in order to move on to something better...
Excellent writing from such a beautiful heart...Mike |
