yer country...

Contributed by metro on Thursday, 14th October 2004 @ 05:05:57 AM in AEST
Topic: LostLove

on my way to a show a few blocks over, stopped in at the bar
to smile and wave and be on my way again
and there you were - shrouded in India,
(it clung to yer lips like hello)...

funny, the first thing i thought of
when i saw you was turning around...
always on the run from anything tangible,
and at that moment the room was full -
filled to the brim with you...

why do i fall in love with everyone i meet?

and i knew you...
the way a tourist might know a street corner,
if only i'd brought a map...
searching ever-so desperately
for the fastest route into yer way of thinking,
then suddenly scratching for a way out...

you said you miss yer friends in brooklyn,
stories of yer mother, her sickness, yer father
and everything i never wanted to know about medicine...
i don't give a damn about medicine - so tell me more...

you stood in my kitchen and took off my hat...
you kissed me... said you were sorry...
did it again...

and i've never been to India...
all the books i've read are meaningless, i can see that now...
just then - i hated my going away...
i hated my distance and the way it pulls me
from everything always...
i hated that i would never be kissed that way - by you - again...

sitting here, only thirty miles away, i know i was right...

i want to fly to yer country and fix what's been broken in me...
i want to climb into yer culture and listen to
the language of yer youth...

you said you wished i hadn't had to leave and i believed you...
you stood in my kitchen and took off my hat...
you kissed me and i believed you...

i wish you were a liar,
it would make things so much easier for me...
