Shades of Gray Solemnity

Contributed by slayer_015 on Thursday, 14th October 2004 @ 02:39:06 AM in AEST
Topic: DarkPoetry

The storm marches into the valley
like a gray army conquering the sunset,
while orange clad trees bow in reverence
as it passes, and the haunting moan
of the bleak October wind screams
from their branches.

Thunder rumbles in the distance
where ancient gods throw
lightening bolts like bombs
onto the sodden hearts of
weary unbelievers.

It begins to rain, masking the teardrops
of well dressed women in black veils
gathered around a blue casket littered
with pink roses where the thoughts
of death wag from the mouths of
holy clerics in sombre sentiments.

Infants cry in the loving arms of young mothers
who walk hurriedly for the warming sanctuary
of quiet rooms and rocking chairs to soothe
the rain-soaked anger of their dampened bantlings.

The clouds race on in well formed ranks across
doleful windows of fourth floor hospital rooms
where sorrowful faces peer despondently at
trickling raindrops with fading hope of brighter
days.

The rain stops. The thunder is distant again,
and all is silent in the valley once more,
where conquering clouds have given way to
twilit skies bursting with the dazzling light of
a million stars, and the lurid countenance of
the rising moon.

Wow, such vivid imagery, I felt it, it was really great! Good job!
"Infants cry in the loving arms of young mothers
who walk hurriedly for the warming sanctuary
of quiet rooms and rocking chairs to soothe
the rain-soaked anger of their dampened bantlings." my fav part.

wow.......you had me at the title.....and then you gently placed me years ago against a rainspattered window in a fourth floor hospital room .......that too ended with a tiny casket.......you have a talent with words and imagery ......you take the reader on their own separate journey......your work belongs bound.....on a shelf.....with well worn and frayed pages........
