For Goodbye

Contributed by Nazmythian on Wednesday, 13th October 2004 @ 04:16:33 PM in AEST
Topic: EmotionalPoetry

I was working pretty late one night
Came home to a note on the door
It said, “I don’t know if it’s wrong or right
But I can’t live like this anymore
The kids are at Momma’s
They’re pro’bly in bed
I know they’ve been cared for
And I know they’ve been fed
But I just can’t hide this hurt inside
God knows, just how hard I’ve tried
So I think now that it’s finally time
For Goodbye ~”

I went in and I sat down
I picked up the phone
Started callin’ all over town
Tryin’ to find out where she’d gone
But I got no answers
I got no sympathy
No one I spoke to
Seemed worried ‘bout me
And it was then that I realized
There were tears fallin’ from my eyes
I thought we’d been together too long a time
For Goodbye ~

Now I’ve worked like a dog
For my family
I bought them everything they wanted
Every thing they’d ever need
And I just can’t help but wonder
What its all been for
When she throws her arms up in the air
And walks right out the door
My body shakes in anger
As I curse the empty room
Then hang my head in silence
Let this house become a tomb
When all at once I understand
The thing I failed to see
I was buyin’ them the world
But what they needed more
Was me ~

Then I heard her softly call my name
I turned and saw her standing there
She said, ”You’re not the only one to blame
I haven’t always been fair
I know you work hard
I know you work long
But sometimes I need you here
So you can help me be strong
And it seems like when I need you most
You’ve left me holding onto a ghost
The only thing I have left is to hope
For Goodbye ~

So the next time that you have to choose
Honey, please keep in mind
You’re not the only one to loose
If it ever comes down to goodbye
The kids have their Mommy
But they still need their Dad
And I need to feel the warm
Loving arms of a man
I’ve given you all I have to give
All that I am and two beautiful kids
But I just can’t go on like this. I refuse to live,
For Goodbye ~”

And I’m workin’ late again tonight

OMG, Naz... this one spoke to me. I've been dealing with this issue for what seems like forever. It comes down to the choices people make and what they are giving up to be "successful." Bless you for writing this!

OMG, NAZ! I can barely write because my hands are trembling of sorrow... Tears are being shed, for I hate to see this, this pain, this anguish that haunts you... My heart has been torn into irrevocable pieces. My dearest Scott, I know how this is. My parents have been divorce for a while, and I have always wondered the same question: "What breaks a home?" My precious friend, I give you my sympathys and my blessings, for this is so much sadness to carry, so much pain to drag... You have worked so hard to give them what they wanted, to keep a roof over their heads, and what they needed most was you yourself... This hurts me to no end, Naz. A beautiful, VERY sad poem. You know you always have a friend to talk to. *BIG HUG!!* I'm so sorry for this. A heartwrenching write, forever to be remembered. God bless. Much love and sympathy! Forever your friend,

Votre fleur sympathique

Writes from the heart are typically those that are felt most, For Goodbye was indeed such a write. But not all heart felt emotions come from personal present day life. I come from a broken home ... I wish it not upon my girls. This is more a reminder to myself of what is important ... than a write of current events within my life.

Thank you for reading this piece.

Nazmythian ~

Brilliant, Nazzy.

Very effective construction.
Every line is very true.
This is real stuff.
Real good stuff.

You slammed me with that last line, Scott. It was.... outrageously familiar. I think you may well have just unveiled another thing that we have in common. I think I'll leave it at that.

I am... obviously... moved by this. And, am happy to have found that (one way or another) it can get better. Sorry if I sound preachy... this piece just... brought me back to a time... you know?

I suspect you have already found your answer... and I do hope it's what you wanted,
SNM

Naz,

A beautifully written poem, but a very sad and heartfelt situation. I can't tell you how many times I sat with a client who saw too late that his priorities were, he thought, to work hard and support his family. Only to loose them due to his absence.

My heart goes out to you
Willofree
