I'm Still Human

Contributed by pixie on Tuesday, 12th October 2004 @ 09:53:54 AM in AEST
Topic: oops

I might walk the streets,
Just like you I need to eat,
So I turn tricks to meet my ends,
I have nothing, not even a friend.

I am alone as I walk at night,
Clutching onto my bag so tight,
Shivering in the freezing cold,
Homeless at only twenty-one years old.

People walk by & spit in my face,
I’ll do it anywhere, time or place,
Does that make you better than me?
Nothing in this life comes for free.

I do what I have to so I don’t starve,
& at my job I work just as hard,
I don’t do what I do by choice,
In the normal society I have no voice.

Desperate people do desperate things,
Try to mend their broken wings,
Do what they have to, to survive,
Fight until the end to stay alive.

I have a heart although I’m on the game,
In what I do I carry no shame,
So don’t you dare look down your nose,
There’s not one thing about me that you know.

this is showing a different side of the coin, from the prostitutes perspective. i like it a lot, i think it also speaks truth.

Great work Pixie, this was very informative, shows even prostitutes have feelings and do it because they feel there is no way out. I must admit I can be very quick to judge sometimes, this has made me stop and think, well done you!!!

it's a very sad an emotional piece. i can tell that you're not lying here.
i don't see any thing wrong in you doing what you do. any one that thinks there' some thing wrong with you or there's some thing bad about you are too blind to see the hurt inside you, but by reading lot of your poems i can under stand what you tell the world completely! ... and i'm always GONNA BE HERE WHEN YOU WANT TO TALK, SO PLEASE NEVER FORGET THAT.
Take care,
from Rosie.

Another consecutive 5 star!! I loved the idea very very very very much as I always think about those people that live in the dark and only gets spits on the faces, but I've never written anything about it, which makes me emparresed when reading yours!! I loved the way you described her deep feelings and emotions, the way she thinks, everything. I liked your finale as I always do "So don’t you dare look down your nose, There’s not one thing about me that you know", you are absolutely right, while reading this poem I was hearing an echo in my head saying "Aren't we all humans or What??!!", Great one Pixie, you are one of my favorites.
