Voluntary Imprisonment

LoveRemembered
|
I see the reflection of what was once pure,
as I grasp for something more mature.
Holding on to the one I call Dear,
captivated by your love so sincere.
You ruled my life for twenty months to the day;
dictated my time and made me obey.
I’m corrupted by your kind repose,
you’re like the dew on a perfect rose.
Please free me from past devotion,
and into the ambit of lost emotion.
Not stranger, nor lover, nor friend;
you hold my heart to the bitter end.
Oh, Elizabeth! I curse your name,
and relinquish my heart all the same.
Your presence gives such great satisfaction
yet causes a frustrating distraction.
What ills you induce you do not know.
Just leave me, leave me, leave me to grow.
The mirror reveals what I can not stand,
my reflection shows your endless brand.

Being friends with an ex is the biggest joke there ever was.
This was an excellent poem. :) |
