Why I Drink

Contributed by pixie on Saturday, 9th October 2004 @ 08:49:38 AM in AEST
Topic: selfstruggles

The reason why I drink,
Is sometimes so I don’t have to think,
Sometimes to cover up how I feel,
When I want to escape from what’s real.

Drowning my sorrows is what I do best,
I am an alcoholic I must confess,
I hide in the bottom of a vodka glass,
Hoping that my worries will just pass.

But when I wake up in the light of the day,
They are still there, that’s where they’ll stay,
For years I have hid behind the booze,
As it is so readily available to abuse.

I doubt I’ll ever put it down for good,
Even though sometimes I know I should,
But as the sweetness hits I go numb,
To drinking more & more I always succumb.

Sometimes never knowing when to stop,
Even when I’m that intoxicated I drop,
I don’t drink every day but I binge,
Drinking so much I become so unhinged.

I can’t always go through life sober,
When things are too hard for me to get over,
I pick up the bottle & climb inside,
Away from the world I go to hide.

i dont consider myself an alcoholic but i do the same things, i used to smoke weed also. i always said it was my way of forgetting about life for awhile, even though it is still there when i wake up and sometimes worse then before, so i would just to it again and again until i forgot. but i also drink because it is fun. on the poem sense a great poem it really is expressed well.

Fair play to you pixie, it's not good to have an addiction, but trust me 99% of the population are addicted to something!

You are not alone.

Good work.

Aww Hun.... you are a very courageous girl.... and you have been through so much.... I hope that one day soon, you would not need the drinks to help you face life....
(Just for the record, I plan to get high tonight)
Hugs and love...talk soon,
Jenni
