Have You Ever?

Have You Ever
October 7, 2004

Have you ever seen me cry?
Were my tears silent, slipping down my face?
Did I try to hide them, disguise my disgrace?
Did my tears fill my eyes and never fall?
Was it because I held them back, or did I turn to the wall?
Were my tears dry, not showing their existence?
Did you see them forming in my heart?
Did you see the resistance?
Have you ever seen me fall apart?

Have you ever heard me wish to die?
Did I whisper the words in a prayer, or curse?
Did you hear it then, knowing it was getting worse?
Were my words from anger, from pain?
Could you listen to me wish my life away?
Was my plea never said aloud, tucked only in my mind?
Did you think I never wished for it to end?
Were you unaware of my intentions, though confined?
Have you ever stood with me to pretend?

Have you ever worried about me?
Did you tell our friends you thought, maybe?
Were you ever scared to say something?
Did you think I would have been scared?
Did you think I would have lied, said I did not care?
Was it because I held my breath and pulled back?
Did you ever wonder what it was I lacked?
Were you ever tempted to mention my change?
Had you questioned how I would react?
Have you ever promised yourself you'd engage?

Have you ever thought about me since?
Was your reaction to my loss painfully immense?
Did you think about me when you saw my things?
Had you cried in your room for what I'll never bring?
Were you involved in the candlelight remembrance?
Did you speak to the people about the lives I had enhanced?
Would you tell everyone I loved I said goodbye?
Will you tell me you miss me again?
Have you ever felt my tears fall from Heaven?
