I'd like to be at a show.
Dancing and singing with friends I know.
Colorful people, colorful clothes'
Kindest folks you'll ever know.
Brothers and Sisters all with the same notion.
Kindred spirits you might say.
We're all here for the same reason,
to hear the band play.
Some folks call us hippies,
some folks call us freaks.
I think both names'
fit just fine for me!
Everywhere you look about'
it's barefoot folks you'll see.
Just a small part,
of my extended family!
I enjoy the sounds of the drum circle,
it's a show before the show.
All kinds of folks putting down some rhythms'
letting the love flow.
We'll walk a bit down Shakedown Street,
I feel the need for a bite.
Veggie burrito or a grilled cheese,
either would be a delight!
Did I hear someone yell nuggets?
Let's buy a new piece of glass.
Catch a buzz and sit a spell,
over in the grass.
Let's do some more walking.
Lots more cool stuff to see.
A brother playing and selling bongos
a sister trading CD's.
I'd like a new tie-dye'
a patchwork purse too.
Buy some glowsticks for the kids,
we'll take one in red and one in blue.
Hey!! Kind hippie chick,
What's in your basket sis?
Fresh ganja goo-balls!
I'll take two, delish!!
Well, better grab our blanket,
the shows about to start.
Kick back, listen to the Dead.
Let their music fill our hearts!

Woah tottally cool poem, loved the way it flowed, and the story that it created, plus the clear pictures painted within your words, so beautifully composed, I have friends who are gypsies, and their life is so way cool and laid back, I somtimes wonder if that would be life for me.......ah well oneday maybe.
Awesome write I would give it 10 stars if able, hopefully 5 will suffice. |

I met a guy who just dropped into my life at one of my summer gathering. He'd picked up the hitchhiking performer who was supposed to be at my place and was vagabound in Oregon. They made it for the gig, Clarence Clearwater was the scheduled performer. He brought these guys who picked him up all the way to New Mexico! The main guy named Bingo and his sidekick soundman, guitar, vocals and banjo backup was Tony Mason. Bingo sang and played just like Jerry Garcia! That was "an evening with hippies" I'll never forget and this poem I'll not forget either. Fantastic job, Laura.
peace - wabl
