Darkest night engulfs me from within.
I fall inside a mirror of my past
Spinning down through my memories.
Then Is top, my body now that of a seven year old.
Leather bag banging against my blue coat
As I jump over puddles.
The old house with a poplar in the garden
Has a wooden door swollen by the rain.
Outside the sun has just begun to set.
However, inside the darkest night has already come.
I walk into the cavernous kitchen
With the grease spots on the wall and
Blacken saucepans hanging from iron hooks.
The old maid scolds me fiercely
And my brothers are sipping coco.
Mama’s sick once more,
It is my job to make her better.
I travel through the dark house
Unexplained wind chills me
As I walk past the large mirror.
That is where the devil lives.
In a room full of furniture
My mama lies, covered by blankets.
Paraffin soot covers the walls
And I can barely make my way through the room.
A cold hand grasps mine.
I sit by my mama and hold her head.
My mama is a wilting beauty,
And I have to stay by her side.
Mama cannot die or we will be lost, sent to live with papa.
Blessed mart mother of god pray for us
Sinners now and in out house of death,
Amen.
Oh dear mama do not leave us.
I will stay by your side all night
And pray real hard.
Then I can make all your pain go away.
