Kings College Chapel, Cambridge

Contributed by Eastway on Wednesday, 13th November 2002 @ 03:30:00 AM in AEST
Topic: PoemsonBeauty

A canvas of lofty, dreaming spires,
Did my anticipatory gaze inspire,
Then searching for an entrance route,
To Chapel sublime set off on foot,
The grandeur of the coloured glaze,
A swelling in my heart did raise,
That masons laboured night and day,
To sculpture visions of far away,
Immortal images caked in grime,
That deftly defy the test of time,
And it warms my soul and gladdens my heart,
That these glittering historic yarns impart,
A feeling of tranquility,
Through scenes of the nativity,
And so precise fan-vaulted ceiling,
Can but set the senses reeling,
Oh God preserve this sacred inventory,
A sanctuary from the 21st Century.

It makes me so happy Eastway to read this poem because it reminds me of the fantastic day trip out we had that summer. But I have to admit , that the main swelling I had was the one in my heart - full of love for you!
I love you madly.
