The Bridge

This is a big bridge, at least for someone like me.
Many paths lead to this bridge, most of which I have never traveled.

What mostly happens is that I end up crossing this bridge alone.
Others go up to it with me, but there is that side road just before you step up;
Most of them get off there.

They bypass the bridge because of me.
They just can’t get past their superficiality.
It hurts me every time, deep chasms made in my heart.
I don’t even want to cross this part.

Before we get to this bridge they get to know me; talk to me before they see me.
It is easy to like a personality.
They travel the road right up to this spot.
Ready to be my friend, maybe liking me a lot.
But then when they see my face, actually all the rest;
They turn away to find something best.

I could change that meeting at the bridge, if I change myself.
But then there is the question of whether you are changing for yourself.
Or if you just want acceptance at that point of the path.

excellent write. very emotional. people are unimportant to your life in most actualities. sure they have the potential to affect us and change us, but it depends on if you want to be changed like that.
