Our Love Was Meant To Last

Contributed by 2ndChance on Saturday, 2nd October 2004 @ 08:43:03 PM in AEST
Topic: EmotionalPoetry

I slow danced with your shadow
I made a promise with your past,
I laughed with your memories,
our love was meant to last.

You never saw me staring,
at the way you'd tilt your head,
or noticed that I really cared,
and remembered everything you said.

You told me, "Life, now that's worth living,
so don't just throw it all away."
you kissed my cheek and started crying,
"I died here yesterday."

I clenched my eyes extremely tight,
there was no way to make me believe,
that after all our promises and plans,
you'd be the one to leave.

From the rooftop I was swaying,
just asking myself why,
you jumped without a hesitation,
and then I heard your reply.

"I'll love you now,
forever more,
because you're the one,
I was living for.

"It wasn't fair to you,
to see me in such pain,
and I regret my sudden death,
I wish I could explain."

Your words gave me no comfort,
I just held my knees and cried,
how could I face each day,
knowing you had died?

Nothing made sense anymore,
reality was too cruel,
the sympathetic glares followed me,
from home and on to school.

I would have taken my life too,
I was hanging from a thread,
just a simple jump like yours...
but I remembered what you said.

"Life, now that's worth living,
don't just throw it all away."
A coward runs and hides himself,
the brave live for today.

I bid your ghost good-bye,
and I didn't think about your smile.
I moved on completely,
yet every once in a while...

I'll slow dance with your shadow,
I'll make a promise with your past,
I'll laugh with your memories,
our love was meant to last.

This is really a great poem, and your style is unique and that's a good thing, it's well written and I really liked the part that said ( "Life, now that's worth living,
don't just throw it all away."
A coward runs and hides himself,
the brave live for today), so keep it up and I'm looking forward to read more of your poems.
