HAVE YOU FORGIVEN YOURSELF?

Contributed by lovingcritters on Friday, 1st October 2004 @ 09:16:47 PM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

"HAVE YOU FORGIVEN YOURSELF?"

All our lives we are taught to forgive.....
That incudes You...or are you still captive?
What is it you are still holding over your own head?
Some action you took or something you said?

The Good Book (Bible) says to forgive others.....
did you also include You, along with debtors?
You say that you can't, it's just too bad?
Are you bigger and better than Your Creator?
He's forgiven you, why are you so sad?

Was it a broken marriage? Or no marriage?
You believed his lies, or hers, two heart brokage?
Did you forgive yourself for believing his lies?
If so, why do we see so many tears in your eyes?

Even losing one to death can bring a guilty conscience.
"If only," or "I wish I had done this or that!"
Do you think your negative thinking will bring them back?
Of course not, that time is past, so unpack...........

Rid yourself of all excess baggage of long ago.....
Forgive yourself, unbind the ties causing you sorrow.
No longer being a slave to You or to your heart.
Forgive yourself, be free.....joy no longer thwart!

This is so very true. I can forgive almost anyone for anything, but I expect perfection from myself and am definitely my worst critic. It does become a problem sometimes as none of us are perfect and never will be. This is a great write, Connie.

Love,
Rita

Learning this is crucial to our relationship with Christ, each other, and with ourselves. Thanks for sharing.

You are right on--on this one.

To live with ourselves for a lifetime and be healthy we must forgive ourselves which is so much harder than to forgive the general population.

You summed it up.

Well done.

forgiveness is a long, dark, winding road, my friend. i've beaten myself up for years because of my mom's death & a horrible relationship with my dad. before he passed away I found the forgiveness i needed for myself and was able to forgive him for being an abuser rather than my dad. now years later, i find myself seeking the strength to forgive someone who wronged me in love. this poem may be just what i needed to read to remind me how its done. thanks
