without your kiss

Topic: LostLove

What are these walls that hide your smile,
Where comes this blindness to my eyes
That etched gray stone fills my world
And cold as stone my heart no longer feels?
Long halls with pillars of wood and
Marble floors give echoes to my cries.
Tall gates and walls once comforting,
Now my comfort the mason steals.
The staircase you descended,
Carefully stepping past things left unsaid.
Questions masked for the moment
By your Long veil falling, stair by stair.
That staircase now is a gallows’s march
To the tight itchy noose of an empty bed.
I cannot bear to remember the whys
That left me here and sent you there.
Tears fall upon the marble
As our wedding dance spins in my head.
I laugh the laugh of a falling man
Who misjudged the leap and is rushing to ground.
The servants, the castle, the fine mowed lawn
Are nothing without your kiss.
I will fire the household staff,
Let dust mark my lonely journey thru life
With prints upon the floor.
The gardeners shall go unpaid, and the gardens,
Once full of color, shall fall back to weed.
There are wrens upon the windowsill,
Fawn and white against the granite’s gray.
I am a wren, with pale color and unpleasant song,
Staring at winter with shivering contempt.
I am a bird upon your finger, charmed by grace,
Giving up flight so as to touch beauty.
Yes, I am a flightless bird, fallen from nest,
Without love to heal nor wind to soar.
Head held high in the tall grass watching
For the mercy of a hungry cat.

I think this poems is very well written and describes beautifully the utter loss and devestation felt. The last stanza beginning with, "I am a bird upon your finger, charmed by grace, Giving up flight so as to touch beauty." Hits close to home as I also have, "fallen from nest, Without love to heal nor wind to soar. "

Good write.
