A guitar pick
Its not a triangle, but it is triangular
.As thin as the nail of a finger,
Yet 3 fingers can’t destroy it.
So small and yet able to endure weight
Like an ant.
Colors intertwine in one another.
Shades of gold and brown and yellow
Mingle, like guests at a party.
When held up, it is a curtain,
Turning my finger in to a mere shadow.
From close up it the colors resemble a kaleidoscope
As its moved further from an eye
The top lights up.
Gold.
Illuminating the whole pick
Making the top stand out
Like a duck
In a flock of geese.
The Lettering, “fender medium”.
. Indentations and chips cover it.
Theyr’e not like craters on a planet
More like tiny imperfections
On a piece of china.
Almost hidden
But shouting out memories.
Memories of those comfortable chords
Making up for feelings as empty
as an abandoned warehouse.
Memories of celebration
While playing with the band.
Memories of hope of the
Future concerts, and the songs
That had been written.
Memories of depression
and scattered lexapro pills
on a desk.
All tightly concealed in the imperfection.
Is the picture worth a thousand words?
Then the rip in it must be worth a million.
