Obsidian Windows

Contributed by TheSchroedmeister on Tuesday, 28th September 2004 @ 12:11:11 PM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

I lived in a house
with
Obsidian windows,

Through which shone
A life,

And in it
open
spaces.

I could stare
At the sun for
hours and still
never see day.

I lived in a house
with windows of
anger

They turned hope into
a mindless bleak
or silk into
concrete

They were scolding
To the touch;
I scratched the glass
To shoo a bird that
Sang a chorus I’d rarely heard
And burned my hand
To great degree,
To hush the beauty
That came to me

I lived in a house
With a hate-stoked fire,
To keep out the winter,
To keep out desire,
To have a place,
With obsidian windows,
Where no bird would
Cry for me,
No tear would fall
For me,
And no hope would
Ever find its way
To me

In Hell I found peace
From this cold Earth

Very interesting and sad, beautiful. I love the wording, the metaphors, the imagery.

"I could stare

Bleak.

I'm not sure if I've read anything as brooding and as depressing as this from you yet. You write melancholia with skill, and I suppose . . .

I expect you are just as good in depression, as in any other emotion.

Still a fan,
N_F
