Said the Oak Tree to the Sky above,
"This grand old world was made for Love;
Yet maidens fair stand by and weep
While aimless youths sink in defeat.
A sad state of affairs to see
Our children droop in misery"
"Let’s get together, you and I,
To rend the veil from off the eye,
And teach them by each cooing dove
That perfect life means perfect love."
And so together, just those two
Planned and schemed what they would do
To waken up each human soul,
By making love its highest goal.
They called the sun before he set;
The moon, the stars, the clouds, all met.
Each bird and flower and leaf-bud tense
Joined in the mighty conference.
Agreed, they set one day apart
To open up each human heart,
To fill it by the Power above
With all that makes for perfect love.
Just like the old woman who lived in a shoe,
There was so much excitement and so much ado
That old Mr. Sun, with majestic grace,
Began the proceedings by washing his face
Till it shone with an excellence never surpassed…
And each little element joined in it’s task.
The clouds shed great tears, and the Sky grew more blue,
They shook all the dust from their petticoats, too.
The bright morning star, who always looks trim,
Used Golden Rod polish and plenty of vim,
While each little star scoured it’s face with a grin;
And dear mother moon used her new Milkweed cream
To smooth out her wrinkles with never a seam.
The choral groups met, all the birds and the bees,
A nightingale led from her home in the trees,
The rose taught her sister some new steps in dancing
While grandmother oak’s little leaves started prancing.
Dawn peeped in the east with a radiant line
That morning which marked the new era of time,
For old Mr. Sun couldn’t wait a bit more
To pour out his glory of love the world o’er.
And as the day lengthened the heavens grew brighter
As fluffy, white, fleeting clouds glistened the whiter.
Each tree’s dress was richer, each flower more gay,
The world was a living picture that day!
Each maid at her task stopped to listen and wonder
How she in her youth could make such a blunder
Of closing her eyes to this wonderful sight,
In which love at it’s best takes such a delight!
Each youth yawned and blinked as he wakened in light,
And cried out for joy, the sun was so bright,
Then wandered through meadows while the breeze tossed his hair,
And thought "I have never seen beauty so fair!"
Next morning the sun rose the self–same old way,
The birds and the flowers all gathered to play.
In the evening the moon and the friendly stars shone
As they had on the night before the New Dawn.
Then the twilight grew deep, while the stars showed their faces,
The moon and the planets ranked high with new graces;
And the maid and the man, by the nest of the dove,
Knew their hearts beat as one with the glory of love!
The eyes of the young folk who live on the earth
Have not faded or dimmed since the day of new birth,
And they waken each morn with a heart full of love
For the beauty about them, shining down from Above.
And the Oak Tree smiles up to the heavenly sky…
She cannot find words, there’s a tear in her eye,
But she knows without doubt a great victory’s been won,
In many a hamlet two hearts beat as one.
