The Trials of The Teenager

Contributed by deadheadpoet on Sunday, 26th September 2004 @ 10:19:21 AM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

Did I act with such stupidity
and reckless abandonment
Did I speak with such a loose tongue

Did I lie to impress
I can only guess
It seems such a long time ago.

Did I cry needlessly
and think all day about myself
Did I easily display all my woes upon a shelf

Did I turn molehills into mountains
light rain into storms
Did I try to make every one look at me
like I was the only one

Did I really dress
to impress
strangers I did not know
Bare a little skin ...to men
Give a little show

Did I primp a lot
and paint up my face
Just to sit around all day
and not go any place.

Did I choose to ignore life
in a pill induced haze
Did I hide
and feel sorry for me
closed in my room all day

Was I so self involved
that others I did not see
did I sit around
in a saddened daze
thinking of
me me me

A few of these characteristics at 18? I think I had all of them, but fortunately, I also had ... a little brother. A great description - impressionistic, but very much to the point.

Sounds similar to the 12-year-old I have at home...have to wonder if I did these things myself. You have described that time so well.
