cold and angry concrete towers
pierce gray smoke filled skies
while the din of construction
and land moving machines
form a glue to hold the outdoor background
in its proper place
inside eyes that refuse to meet another’s
march with determined stride
through underground ceramic hallways
while acrylic two and three piece suits
fit both sexes equally needing only to hide
the most superficial "distinctions"
plastic and aluminum
monoxide belching rodents
scurry the never ending maze of oneways
some even attempting to decipher
the myriad of don't do & must do signs
cluttered on each corner
rude noises from the rodents
and single fingered salutes
from their masters
add to the close and personal atmosphere
as the race goes on
a siren flies by blue & white
red & white black & white
where one fairytale ends
there are more waiting in line
in line, in line, in line
video generated pastel warriors
slash and charge their moment upon the ice
while the adoring minions lift a glass
mouths agape while vacant eyes
are captured between periods
its Ms. Rigby's turn to tell of her own
the box wouldn't lie
mean Gene interviews Durbano
and the furry rodent recently scalped
from scrapiron Hull
the crowd goes wild as 27
does a Savardian Spinarama
from the Frigidair
with a fresh round of brewskys for all
pornographic food delivered hot to your door
30 minutes or free
and not three seconds more
you need it you love it you can't live without it ...
least thats what it says on the box
XXX rated munchies erase all concerns
as Jenny Jones reruns squawk on
and Bosnian end wraps compete for position
while droolpans spill over unnoticed
downhill douching is the event for the week
on our favorite Victoria Principal station
as ratings pile up and contestants go down
the final slope of professional obscurity
bent little shrews behind arborite counters
watch people line up for their judgment
registers ring, click, buzz and clatter approval
as patrons prepare to show plastic.
while one gets a nod and another a smile
the next just a glare for his troubles
"So wheres my thank you?"
he asks the East German judge ...
"Override on fifteen"
two dimensional icons
sporting silicon globes
and mabeline eyes
wantonly gaze
from their designated position in rack
as two hundred pounds
of chronically dieting grace
delicately applies
just one more coat
while parked in express line three
thirty ml. heads under ten gallon hats
wander out of the sandbox to play
at the Holstein Club
gotta ride that bull
and fling some too!
dressed up in their costumes
the goofs get to pretend
they're not accountants
school teachers, yuppies and bums ...
plastic "folk" playing cowboy in public
the band plays goof garbage
Garth Brooks Dwight Yokum, Jed Clampett
and more
and stage players are paid for their time
while the morons line up to line dance
yell yahoo, wahoo, yip yip,
furrow, grunt, snort, eei eei oo
last call comes and goes
and they all pour the same
out the door to their Chevys and Nissans
as the neighbors awake
to the sound of doors slamming
as America drinks
and goes home.
