The other day i saw that boy that nobody likes,
The one they chase around on their bikes.
standing by the school steps tall and thin,
Broken glasses with a thick glossed rim.
His hair limp and hiding his face.
reading a book yet starring in space.
He never smiles and rarely he'll speak.
He never looks up when they all shout freak.
He doesnt react when the bullies attack,
he stares at his feet and doesnt hit back.
When they kick him he curles himself up in a ball,
And on the sports field they trip him to fall.
Theres something about him i like but i'm shy,
Dont know how he feels and im too scared to try.
It might be those eyes or the way that he looks,
In his long coat and sneakers reading his books.
My friend says i should go over and talk to him,
tomorrow i will do it and wait by the gym.
He didnt come in to school yesterday,
as we called out our names sir marked him away.
As i walked into class today with my friend,
there was a special assembly we had to attend.
The teachers looked sad and announced to us all
"Something terrible has happend to Gregory Small"
I felt i couldnt breath and my heart missed a beat,
i shut my eyes tight and clung to my seat.
I remebered he said something by the school steps that day,
In a weak quiet voice as he was walking away.
He whispered "Invisible" and that was all that was said,
and today in assembly we were told he was dead.
His desk sits empty during maths and french,
and i dont see him eating his lunch on the bench.
Another boy has the key to his locker door,
and nobody calls him a freak anymore.

The Surreal eeL y'know Feel says:
The descriptive verse is similar to the ideas of John Bellairs. A gothic juvenile fiction writer I have admired for years.
Sad tale.
Well done! |
