late spring

The wind blew hard,
Cold and cruel
As winter put it’s hand upon the door
And paused,
Laughing with jack-frost windows
And eyes that grow wider
Every day nearer the end.
The April sun put on it’s best face
And ignored the chill
While robins danced to stay warm
And young daffodils bowed their heads,
Knowing only pain.
