A Cozy Dream

Contributed by liquidsunshine on Wednesday, 22nd September 2004 @ 09:01:11 PM in AEST
Topic: oops

Sitting with my back against the warmth of an olive green arm chair
In a room full of high ceilings, cream-colored walls and dark wooden trimmings
The lights all out in the dead of night and quarrelling flames of the fireplace cast shadows into corners and light on the big round rug I sit on
Curled cozy wrapped in a fuzzy big blanket that feels like baby bunny fur and muffles my tears like auntie’s hugs
A warm cup of tea like the faux dregs of the days when I was but a tiny little princess
A large, high window edged in that chocolate brown wood trimming with a midnight blue nougat peppered with snowflakes and salted with stars-a-twinkling
I look through it all, through the evergreen peace under snow-covered solitude, through the blistering wind that sifts up the powdered sugar snow
Through the sparkle of starlight and the eggnog half moon against the blue-purple black backdrop of the crisp wintry sky
Just as one could look through my eyes, through the rubber cloud sponge of my mind, through the novel that lays a-resting on my knees
Both seekers find but a picture of you, a memory of closed eyes and tangled arms that I feel now in the warmth of the fireplace and the soot of the hearth and a kindred spot in the dead centre of a heart that grows a chilled frost as it sits alone
Tis but a thin and gritty frost, quick to melt at the mere sight of a smile that spreads from your lips to my heart and all the way through
And my gaze turns to the harmless quarrel of crackling flames in a mesmerization I know we both share for each other and for the wilderness of a forest of flickering flames in the evening
Then the world re-appears and I see you in the firelight and I know that love is real.

Wow, Chelsea. I loved the imagery. No one could have done a better job. It brought back my own memories of drinking hot chocolate on chilly nights and the sensation it brings when it warms you all the way down to your toes. (since you know we have so many freezing nights in CA). I loved how you turned it into a love poem. That was so great. You have a beautiful soul, imagination, and atmosphere. Such serenity. Excellent. Never stop writing.
