Consent

Contributed by Elena on Monday, 20th September 2004 @ 07:53:04 AM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

It starts with the ambivalent fragrance
Oregano or Armani in the air
A glass of red wine and redder roses
Scattered lavishly over the floor.

Either Sinatra or Puccini -
Whichever - in any case, violins
As endless family artefacts
Find their way to your fumbling hands

When you gather yourself to understand
What kind of a backdrop this is
Your dress strap has gently been lowered
And the back of your neck has been kissed

There is Fellini in the way you're acting
Tragicomedy in your lack of control,
Someone else inside you responding
To the sweet nothings that mean nothing all.

You look at him blindly, indifferent,
As empty as Eve after the fall
Gath’ring memories for the bleak midwinter
And bedtime stories she never will tell.

WOW!!!!!!!! This is very creative, rich and... darn it, interesting!. I love how you chose to present this. You had this reader with 'in any case, violins'... I knew at that point - that you were taking us somewhere worth going.

Terrific write! You should feel proud of this one!

Impressed,
SNM
