I saw on the hill a little place,
where flowers gave bloom to colors bright.
And to that place I sought to go,
to drink in their fragrance of sweet delight.
It was there they grew in one accord,
marking the hillside for all to see.
But soon I saw with greater view,
my Joan cutting blossoms solely for me.
She stopped to kneel slicing just a slip,
not knowing one watched her dearly.
A group she made of many hues,
my Joan working alone so quietly.
Some blossom here, many blossoms there,
each in its place she gently laid them.
A flowing heap of shades she made,
my Joan harvesting cast of the spectrum.
She quit her work when I called to her,
a sudden smile broke forth with laughter.
A moment's kiss is what we had,,
with hands entwined we walked home thereafter.

Your "Joan" poems seem to catch my eye since my name's Joan too. I have to say I really enjoy reading your work, you use understatement in such a beautiful, poetic, peaceful way. |
