the heart beats its own rhythm
using a top-secret code
known only to another heart
such bonds cannot erode
the mind tries to translate
seeking the true meaning
but in this foreign language
there is no succeeding
the mind gets lost and falls behind
second guesses and doubts preside
only more confounded by time
all sense of clarity shoved aside
likewise the heart cannot heed
the preference is to disobey
lt fails to easily be swayed
ignores what the mind has to say
the mind tries to take command
wanting to shield and protect
aims to guide down a noble path
and to know what to expect
but the heart boldly refuses
with a fearless mind of its own
irrational and rebellious
diving into the unknown
looking to find love
to give and receive
eagerly willing to pay
any price to achieve
try as we may
to alter this tale
but the reality is
we ultimately fail
we are taken hostage
so compelled to comply
helplessly tied and bound
obliging until we die
