My Life

Contributed by Mkaye06w on Friday, 17th September 2004 @ 11:25:31 PM in AEST
Topic: oops

I'm 16 and about to start my JR. year of high school. I live in Indiana and my dad lost his job, but got a new one out in New Jersey. We're moving out there and i wrote this recently. My whole life is here in indy. My entire family, and all of my friends. I also have several friends going to college who this relates to also, so that's how this poem came about. I hope you like it. Please give me some feedback. Thanks!

My life is like a snow globe
Sitting on a shelf.
It’s tucked away all nice and neat,
But instead of a winter scene,
It holds a portrait of myself.

That picture’s not just that,
It stands for my whole life,
All the pain and all the strife,
All the good and all the bad.

Each flake of snow settled at the bottom
Stands for everything that happens each day.
These snowflakes aren’t just memories,
They stand for every part of who I am.

There’s a snowflake there
For the day I was born,
My first steps,
And my first word.

There’s one snowflake there
For each and every heartbreak
Each hope,
And each dream.

There’s one for all my losses,
Let downs and bad days,
And one for each good time
I’ve had along the way.

There’s a piece of frozen water,
Not only for events, but people too.
There’s one for anyone,
Who has ever past me on the street.

There’s one for each true friend,
Who has helped me along the way.
There’s one for each enemy,
Who has only tried to hurt me.

There’s a tiny speck of white
For each teacher in my life.
There’s one for each person,
No matter the length of time I’ve known them.

Put all these tiny snowflakes together,
And you have what makes that portrait
Instead of a plain old white scene
Sitting on that shelf.

There’s a layer of fresh snow,
Added everyday.
It’s the pure white that sits on the top.
Made up by all these people and events.

That snow globe sits unshaken,
For days, weeks, sometimes even years.
Although the outside may never change,
The inside is made new each day.

Then someone or something comes by and shakes it,
Sits it down and walks away.
No snowflakes are removed,
But that snow scene will never be the same.

Some newer snowflakes are buried,
Some old ones brought back to life,
Then everything settles down again,
That portrait still the same.

No matter what shook that globe;
College, a move far, far away,
Or just a change in the way things happen
Each and every day.
There’s one thing,
One person,
One snowflake in that globe
That will never change.

So when my snow globe’s been shaken,
Sat down and left behind,
I know there’s still one place that I can turn,
No matter what, for all my life.

This ceaseless snowflake is God,
The one who gave his son for you and me,
On that cross at Cavalry,
So we can live with him for all eternity.

So when something picks up your globe and shakes it,
And everything settles again,
Remember that snowflake that always lands right on the top
It’s always there for you and me,
No matter how far buried your hopes and dreams seem to get.
