Dogs Should Be On Leads!

Contributed by inoc on Friday, 17th September 2004 @ 12:31:44 AM in AEST
Topic: StoryPoetry

At 6am I went for my walk
I breathed in the freshness what a sin to talk
the air was so sweet and I was certainly blessed
that I awoke today happy and not stressed
with water in hand I bumped into my friend
together we walked to the rivers end
but what we were about to see
in horror and misery
we could not believe our eyes
there was a dog chewing a duckling, it dies
too scared to yell
we could not tell
what this huge dog would do
or what else he wanted to chew
we stood so still
then walked back up the hill
whispering' hope it just goes on home'
as we don't want to be left alone
It had no owner to lead
the poor duckling was just left there to bleed!

Very sad but unfortunatly the truth in most cases.
MY dad use to have chickens-n-ducks and he always said a dog that will eat a chicken ain't worth nuthing 'cause once they get the taste of fresh blood ther would be no stopping them.
Course he was so right.
Great writing and thanks for writing this poem cause it's something people need to hear about it even if they don't comply.
luv, huggs, god bless the ducks,
emy

This is so sad. Owners like that should be banned from having animals. They don't take the responsibility seriously. Living on a farm I was taught early that if a dog starts killing it needs to be put down. But they can be trained from puppyhood not to do that. This is good and states well the irresponsibility of so many pet owners. I have a dog that raised a kitten and she hated cats, but she knew not to kill it. Puppy Cat and Suzie are still best friends today. Blessings
