The Goodbye Card

A flowered photograph
on the front of a card
with a calligraphy story
about a void
waiting to be filled.
This I clutch in my hand
as I enter the halls
of dreams unseen.
I want to go back,
to be able to do things
I'll never regret,
and jump in puddles with her
right before
our English midterm
with our feet soaking wet.
But requited friendships
split up so suddenly
us both crying on the phone,
not because of a few
angry words
but because of too many
angry miles.
