When I Grow Up

When I grow up I'd like to be
A lighthouse keeper in the Araby,
Ships of the desert would by me glide
One hump, two hump, rheumy eyed.
When I grow up I'd like to go
To see the poles in some blizzard snow,
I'd mush about and sing and shout
And kiss white wolves with pups, no doubt
When I grow up, I'd like to fly
A Boeing jet up to the sky,
The land and ocean down below
Would be the carpet that I know.
Are there one of you who didn't dream,
Of fantacies beyond the seam,
Who live a life both dull and gray
who ever expected to live that way.
Consolation it may not be,
But dull and gray was dealt to me,
I grew up and I never saw
The wonders of the Mackinaw.
Except, two sons I have, t'is plain,
They're wonderous folks, God did ordain,
No matter what, no matter where,
You'll never find a greater pair.
So, tho I missed a thing or two,
My sons made up for that.. that's true,
The lighthouse, poles and jet I'll miss,
but nothing like an offspring's kiss.

Over adventures lost I'll not be blue
For treasures I have---one and two
First my boy and then my girl
one a diamond, the other a pearl
I love to read your words so wise
that show my joys in perfect size

Awww *smiles*. Funny and sweet and sentimental at the same time . . . I love it. Great job, gave me a sappy little smile. :)

What a perfectly wonderful piece.
"...nothing like an offspring's kiss."
Never a truer word hath been spoke.
This was very enjoyable to read. :~)

norm,
It struck me as a very awesome poem. It takes us through our fantasy dreams and aspirations to life's reality. And the ultimate experience of loving and being loved by your child.
I was moved.... Willofree |

Why Norm my dear friend. That's just about as sweet as a poem can get!!!I'm not used to reading your poems of mush......but when you speak of your two sons..........as such, I wonder what happened to you in that hurricane? It may just help you gain some fame!
This was so endearing, now write a poem about your sweet little Shirley!
Warm love
consue
P.S. please don't ever grow up Norm....grown ups never have any fun!!! |
