EGYPTS GOLDEN EMPIRE

Topic: StoryPoetry

Egypt’s Golden Empire

Osiris watches the annual cycle,
Of flooding and new growth in the land.
An empire is taking shape,
In the dunes of golden sand.
Great blocks are pulled into place.
Thousands of loyal workers,
Pain and sweat on toiled face.
Obelisks point upwards,
Adorned with hieroglyphic text.
Strategically placed to the stars,
As ornate as the next.
Mummification of a pharaoh,
Took seventy days to prepare.
Only when entombed, united with,
Heavenly light, will the crown be,
Placed on its rightful heir.
Pi-Ramses was growing,
It wasn’t a city for a while.
Buildings growing rivalled those,
Of Thebes with stature,
And unrivalled style.
Temples, figures of bulls.
Horns almost joined at the base,
Then flaring outwards, in a helmet,
Shape with two lethal points.
Desert roads with small forts,
And sparkling watering holes.
The Gods smiled on Egypt, A land,
Of water, sunlight a true goal.
A land where the great beyond,
Connected, where life could,
Overcome death.
Where cycles seemed changed,
In one magical breath.
Pi-Ramses the new capitol,
Or city of turquoise too.
So named for its blue tiles,
Glazed facades of shimmering blue.
A kingdom where years to come,
Man will visit instead.
Following golden paths,
Where Ramses the Great,
A Pharaoh once majestically treads.
