My Dream

Contributed by MnMnMsrcool on Sunday, 12th September 2004 @ 10:26:36 PM in AEST
Topic: SadPoetry

I dreamed I saw a single rose alone one cold dark night;
Fiercely independent! I thought to my delight
There it stood so proudly; so strong and bold and tall,
I thought, "Why can't I be like that without a fear at all?"
But its eyes exposed a sadness that from most it could conceal
and I could see the secrets it did not dare reveal
Though it tried to look so happy its effort was in vain;
I knew the lines etched on its face were carved by tears of pain
that flowed from broken promises like rivers with no end;
its spirit now was broken, its heart it could not mend
so now when someone gets too close it defends itself with thorns
for that's its one protection against yet another scorn
This rose had so much love to give; it begged in silent prayer
for someone to uncover the love buried deeply there
I could see inside this lonely rose; I could feel its pain and sorrow
and I could not bear to see it suffer one more hurt tomorrow
I knew the pain it had endured though a heart of love burned bright;
I knew this rose could not survive another lonely night
So I took its petals in my hand; I embraced its many fears;
I gently stroked its thorns of pain; I dried its dewdrop tears;
I held it closely in my heart; I kissed it tenderly;
but when I said, "I Love you."
I knew that rose was me

This is waaay beyond beautiful. Your Mom should start writing again. I felt this in the deepest part of my soul. Thank you so much for posting it. You should have it matted and framed and give it to her as a gift.

Smiles,
Rita

This is really lovely,
and very real and touching.
Just draws you in...

Indeed, every heart has so much to give. And sometimes, life's hurts make you build up walls and hide.
But, God has also put an ever-flowing spring of hope in every soul...
I think this poem too ends with hope... and that's beautiful.

I was initially confused with the line about a roses 'eyes', but the ending made sense, thankfully.

Tell your mother she did well, and that I enjoyed reading it.

Thanks for posting.

I wasn't expecting the last line. In fact....this poem had reminded me of myself......and when I saw the last line.....it made me smile. This poem has an unspeakable way of touching my heart. Thank you so much.
ALINA
p.s. BRAVO to your mother for such a personal and talented write.
