Attention: The ranks of the freaks
Who suspect, they’ll never love anyone
And whose sombre commandant never speaks
Traipse in a vast phalanx, under a hostile sun
An implacable procession over arid sand
For a hundred thousand arduous miles
And the desiccating climate of that land
Subtly torments those stoic spartan files
Through dunes utterly devoid of animation
Stretching endlessly beyond the horizon haze
Yet flanked by fecund, diverse vegetation
Still they march unwavering, consumed by malaise
A slow demise, alone, together, in the desert.
