If I Were A Poet

Contributed by brigitte7735 on Friday, 10th September 2004 @ 11:51:38 PM in AEST
Topic: EmotionalPoetry

If I were a Poet, I'd master emotion's tongue
Give breath to tears' nature, and the pain from which they hung
Immortalize spirit, whilst trying to save my own
Ignite a wasted world, whose characters turn to stone

If I were a Painter, I'd paint the world like Renoir
Colors bleeding beauty, form a face time cannot mar
Preserved in it's scandal, a Parisian theatre stage
Sprinkled with vanilla, a picture captures a page

If I were a Dancer, I'd gracefully graze the sky
Suspended in the air, cradled by a Swan Lake's cry
Masterpiece of music, accompanies pointed toes
A ballad in motion, lifted legs transformed to prose

If I were a Singer, of an operatic type
My call would baptize you, and pluck you when you're ripe
As your gothic ideal, finally be your girl of choice
Bask in obeisance, men turned to slaves by my voice

If I were a Lady, I'd make you forget the whore
Lost in seas of costume, engaged in clevor rapport
A dance card always full, as they clamor for my hand
Ancient customs frozen, celebration of the grande

If I were anything...anything but what I am

This, I can relate to - feelings of inferiority in the past, coupled with a strident sense of aspiration . . . you describe it very well, Vanessa.

Thanks for posting - its been a while!

"If I were anything...anything but what I am"...
Words I understand ~ And wish I didn't. It seems to me, that you my friend, are most certainly a poet... Great work of art.

Ah, sarcasm. I love sarcasm and this poem!!! Excellent writing!

Some fantastic lines but this one? This one is my favorite.

My call would baptize you, and pluck you when you're ripe

Thank you for excellence!
