Memoirs of a dead love

Contributed by tabby on Wednesday, 8th September 2004 @ 12:00:37 PM in AEST
Topic: LoveRemembered

I climb up to the attic,
One stair at a time.
The wood beneath my foot makes a creak,
The darkness makes me panic.
I light a candle to calm those nerves of mine,
The tiny flame warms my cheeks.
I examine the gloom of the space around me,
Gather my bearings, and
Am engulfed by the shadows.
The magical box that I seek,
Is lost somewhere in the night so deep.
This box my love did bestow,
To me with all his heart,
A short time before we had to part.

I see the box, and
Remember his face,
I cling onto our memories,
As if they were the fine particles
on a butterfly’s wings,
So delicate, and beautiful
Yet if disturbed, gone without a trace.
I peer inside,
Dust and memories fill my lungs,
A stab of remorse pummels me.
I recollect all of the fun.
The feelings that I felt back then, and
The emotions that I feel right now.
I remember to good times,
As well as the bad,
All of the precious memoirs that we once had.

Ahhhhhh... memories.
This is a very nice write. You describe the scene well - good imagery. Like:
I cling onto our memories,
As if they were the fine particles
on a butterfly’s wings,
So delicate, and beautiful
Yet if disturbed, gone without a trace.
I peer inside,
Dust and memories fill my lungs,
