The Little Drug Child Song

The Little Drug Child Song

little drug child
I know you
little drug child
I've been you so believe me I care
little drug child
I’ve got a sale sign
I wear over it my heart
and I’ve got a scar like you
I wear it on my face
little drug child
A man can weigh his measure by his demons
little drug child
he said meet me at the motel and I’ve been awake since forever

little drug child
I've been in those clothes with those guys
making eyes at you
and you don't know
if they want to beat you up,
or do they want to *****?
and sometimes its all the same
sometimes its all the same

little drug child
you're twisting in your blue jeans
little drug child
you're hiding down deep inside
little drug child
I know you want to be in a quiet place,
by the Ocean
with maybe somebody who loves you
but you're here, in the big city
trying to act cool and trying to look street-wise
waiting for the speed to stop the come-down
you're wise honey
but when you wear your black sunglasses
you hide away my favorite part
didn't anyone ever tell you?
your soul is in your eyes
and I can see your heart as well
it's beautiful, and free

little drug child
you must get the preachers
telling you about the Prophet or talking about Jesus Christ
but all you want
is some cash and a clean bed and someone kind to put you to sleep
little drug child
you tell me what you need
I'll do my best
I’ll do my best for you

little drug child
Do you wanna get out of here?
Do you have family?
Did they ***** you up the ass?
Do you have friends?
Did they sell you out & all go 9-to-5?
Did they die?
Or did you run,
Because running’s the easiest thing to do when the cage just starts to close?
Did you leave a little girl all alone?
Did you leave a brother out there in the Ocean?

little drug child
I ain't judging
I ain't anyone

little drug child
you're always safe with me,
I've been you
so you can trust me
little drug child
I've got a heart that's seen some damage
And sometimes its downright useless
Shredded up by real life,
Last night I was crying by the TV light
But I don’t even know who I’m missing anymore
You start out so young
But you get so numb
You get so numb
it's like this life got a piece of me
& it just ain't stopped taking,
A little more, year after year, a little more of me gone
But when I get all ***** up, I start to get free of all of it,
I know that’s a bad thing, but baby, sometimes I do bad things
Things against my better judgment

little drug child
set the sail for the Sun
and we won't look back
on this boulevard of broken hearts and bleeding names
little drug child
there has to be a better life
somewhere
there has to be a better way
Of getting free
I know it in my heart
Little drug child
Let’s just get in the car and drive,
Hold my hand, and sing the song on the radio,
We won’t look back,
We won’t look back, for anyone.

(David Finn, 2004)

The first 3 stanzas were I found very inspiring
and somewhat beautiful
but it begun to drag on a bit
fair enough these are your thoughts
but as a poem I feel it dragged on
If it had ended earlier say the end line

'Its beautiful and free'

I would have awarded 5/5

The story of so many people. Take their faces in your hands and scream "listen to me, you're killing yourself!" Nothing helps. I would love to hear it sung sometime. I don't think it drug on at all. I think it could have been condensed possibly, but the end half has a lot in it that I feel is important to the poem.

I don't know exactly what to say. I disgree with the first comment. Had this poem been shorter.....then you're point would have not gotton across...had it been longer it would have had no meaning. This was the perfect piece and the story of my life. It feels as if you mad this poem especially for me.....thank you. For I have lived what is described in this poem......and it is comforting to know that there is someone out there who can relate. Please keep posting . You're very talented. This truelly touched my heart where it hurts.

Thans for reading & responding guys! :-) This was written from a very personal point of view. Its a true story-and somehow, that makes it mean more to me. I agree I could work on the 2nd half, but really it is a story and if I finished in the 1st half, it wouldn't be complete. I really wanted to write that ending, just getting in the car and driving away from the *****. I'm glad u all enjoyed it and Alina thankyou very much for your kind words+++++++++++++++++
