Weeds In My Haven

Contributed by thumper on Wednesday, 8th September 2004 @ 08:10:03 AM in AEST
Topic: MiscPoems

I chanced upon a garden years ago
I helped it flourish, I watched it grow
It was a serene place of security
Warm contentment, it comforted me

It was a place where I went to heal
After my life's tragic and grueling ordeal
I never thought I'd be whole again
It gave me the peace that I needed to mend

After a few years, I spied some cute weeds
How much trouble could the little things be?
Oh, for that thought I would pay so dear
I'd regret their presence in under a year

In the beginning there was only the two
I didn't pay heed, what harm could they do?
Then down the line there was three or four
All of a sudden it became a weed war

They started to choke out this haven of mine
I rallied my stregnths and took the time
To rip those weeds out. I did it with haste
Too late! The damage was done. What a waste!

Alongside these weeds some new flowers grew
So I tended and cared just for those few
And I left the rest of the garden alone
For these callous actions I now will atone!

For I no longer feel so safe and secure
In my garden the weeds are well past mature
They've overgrown this sanctuary of mine
Overrun it with brier and Kudzu vine

There are thistle and thorns all over the place
I wish now I'd kept this garden more chaste
I'll get to work now, to set it all right
I don't know if I can get rid of the blight

I'll do what I can and with some faith
Hard work, much sweat, I'll sit back and wait
I'll give it the time that it needs to heal
Then someday, hopefully, serenity I'll feel.

MORAL: If you don't tend to the weeds,
You'll lose the garden. :o(

Hello Thumper, There is nothing like a garden to either drive you crazy or give you the ultimate pleasure. My garden always looked a picture even in winter but oh the weeds, They come and they survive even the most cruel of tactics there is only one safe way to get rid of them and that is to radically dig them out by the roots then burn them before they get a chance to go to seed.Great Poem 5/5 as usual hugs bernard.

This is really very good and I wonder if this holds up for you and truly I pray 'Serenity you feel.'
I have one contention as weeds are plants too with many as an ally of health and healing medicine as long as there has been life on earth. What we pluck and call 'weed' if seen as food can also be good for you. Thistle is good for the liver, and brier seeds when tinctured are a way to break up growths and cysts in the body. Kudzu is alkalizing and a good thickener for gravy and stew without the calories. Thorns often from wild roses offers 2 gifts as the petals are nourishing in spring and the hips make a great tea and sauce rich in vitamin C.

Forgive the rant and thank you for this post.

Peace
Yang
