Summer Is Nearly Over

Contributed by Alib on Saturday, 4th September 2004 @ 02:31:39 PM in AEST
Topic: NaturePoetry

Summer is nearly over
Although I’m not sure it began
It’s been raining for a lifetime
It’s now time to get back on track

The nights are closing in now
The flowers wilt away
Darker, damp and dreary
Overcast and grey

Autumn slowly peeking through
Waiting to be seen
With browns and reds and oranges
Replacing all the green

Pathways of fallen leaves
Scattered all around
Squirrels busy gathering
The acorns on the ground

With winter not so far away
A bitter chill in the air
Snowflakes falling delicately
Branches completely bare

Slippy roads and frozen toes
Kids playing in the snow
Icicles form as we try to keep warm
Then the frosts eventually go

Spring has sprung
A new season begun
Gardens alive once again
With daffodils, tulips and cyclamen

And as another summer approaches
We’ll long for sunny days
And our nature will flourish
In a most beautiful way
