Ode to John Lennon

Contributed by blueeyes on Tuesday, 5th November 2002 @ 12:00:00 PM in AEST
Topic: Nostalgic

Who is the master,
who is the slave,
I bet John Lennon"s turning in his grave,
a man of lyrics, not of dance,
he only wanted to give peace a chance,
he married in hope of a lifetime together,
but it turned out no strawberry fields forever,
life brutally taken in New York one day,
as Lee Harvey Oswald blew him away,
no chance of shelter, no place to hide,
just given a oneway ticket to ride,
who knows if the judge got it wrong or right,
at least John will not face another hard days night,
and its his loved ones who continue to pay,
they have only the memories of yesterday,
so lets come together and take a stance,
grant him his wish,
give peace a chance.

I understand the way this poem is written. I don't understand the killers motives. Mark David Chapman's name is not to be used or said. I beg to differ the time when peace needed a chance and war. John had a vison made song. I looked thru that Glass Onion, I Found that Nowhere Mah. Such a shame.

It's nice to see someone else admires John Lennon as much as I do. A brilliant writer and such a waste of life. I hope you realise Lee Harvey Oswald shot JFK and not John Lennon. Another great life wasted though.

Sometimes people read too deeply into a poem, I appreciate how you showed your love for the songs of John lennon by using his titles in your poem. Do not let the rating that people gave your poem take away from the fact that you are a very good writer. It is very hard to keep writing when we see those bad reviews. My guess is it was some one who did not like his view on things, who gave you this poor rating. Keep writing --Archie
